Apollo 13 was the only time the American manned space program had ever made it back to Earth. However, Apollo 13 was not such a success. The spacecraft was struck by an oxygen tank explosion and after the crew successfully rendezvoused with the Moon, their life support systems failed. The spacecraft spun out of control and the astronauts were forced to take drastic measures to get back to Earth safely.
